about

"We Miss The Ones We Could Have Been" is an EP by Berlin-based artists Simon Ansing & Fabian Koppri. It was released especially for World Piano Day 2021, which was created by Nils Frahm. The four pieces explore the deep sound possibilities of a very unique sounding mid-century Grotrian Steinweg piano in Fabians recording studio. The intimate and hypnotic sound of this lovely instrument inspired Simon to improvise on simple yet colorful harmonies and melodies. These magical moments were captured by Fabian using special microphones capable of picking up even the quietest facets of sound, giving the listener a sense of closeness and immersion.
The result of this spontaneous collaboration of a piano player and a sound engineer highlights the interdependencies of the two disciplines which only together can create such a fascinating sonic piece of art.
